Kim David Smith’s “Stargazing” at Joe’s Pub, October 8!

I’m very excited to announce my brand new electro-cabaret, “Stargazing,” a genre-mashing, electro-cabaret fantasia premiering at Joe’s Pub at the Public Theatre (425 Lafayette Street, New York City), October 8, 9:30 PM.

I recently spoke with Next Magazine about Stargazing’s setlist — check out the link below for the inside scoop on songs, and artists referenced, and for some amazing photography by NYC’s Brian Jamie: STARGAZING in NEXT MAGAZINE.

Directed by Michael Rader (Cirque du Soleil), with music direction by Benjamin Ickies, and costuming by Miodrag Guberini (Rebel Heart Tour, The Black Party), Stargazing is an intimately electronic reimagining of musical constellations formed from stars old and new, including Kurt Weill, Kylie Minogue, Friedrich Hollaender, Olivia Newton-John, Edith Piaf, Madonna, ME, and Marlene Dietrich.

Along with repertoire spanning the 1920’s through to today, my own pop originals will be represented, with selections performed from my electropop albums “Nova” and “Supernova” (Ninthwave Records), and cabaret EP “The Tease.”

I’m extremely excited to return to Café Sabarsky at the Neue Galerie on Thursday, May 14th with an eclectic, Neo-Weimar program, featuring re-imagined works by Kurt Weill, Kylie Minogue, Friedrich Hollaender, Madonna, Hans Eisler, and Jem and the Holograms, among numerous, glittering others (with accompaniment by Benjamin Ickies on piano, accordion and synth).

Located at 1048 Fifth Avenue, and housed in a former Vanderbilt mansion, the Neue Galerie is home to Gustav Klimt’s “Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I,” and serves as New York City’s premier venue for German and Austrian art.

Performance is at 9PM, preceded by a prix-fixe dinner at 7PM. Combined cost is $110 (dinner $65, performance $45; purchased together). Please call 212-628-6200 (ext. 485) for tickets, or visit neuegalerie.org/programs/cabaret.

Kim Smith’s Nova Noir will take the stage at The Manderley Bar (at the McKittrick Hotel) on January 20, at 10:30PM in a free concert, conjuring the glitter and doom of Weimar-era Germany, and the electronic heartbeat of modern pop in a Frankenstein’s monster of genre-mashing and music making.

Fronting a too-talented band led by the inimitable Benjamin Ickies, Kim Smith performs his own electropop originals alongside peculiar period treasures, incorporating works by Friedrich Hollaender, Kylie Minogue, Kurt Weill, Madonna, The Supremes, Mischa Spoliansky, and myriad others.

Kim Smith/Nova Noir January 20, 10:30PM at The Manderley Bar/The McKittrick Hotel (530 West 27th Street, NYC). FREE!

“He happily considers himself as a misfit, and goes about proving his point in several languages. There’s no one else around these days offering the kind of cabaret that he does so compellingly. Well, maybe Ute Lemper, but that’s it. Smith needs to be seen, and now.”
